The New Health Care Laws

Recent changes are causing the public fits. In September of 2010, lifetime medical limits were increased to 'unlimited'. Also, the age limit for dependents leaped to 26.

Kevin C. Murphy, President of PIA/Sierra Insurance Re-Elected to Recreation Board Seat
November 7, 2010
After spearheading the local effort to design and construct the new Truckee Community Center which opened December 5th, 2009, Kevin was re-elected to another 4-year term. The new Community Center was completed $7 million UNDER budget.
Under Kevin's and the Board of Directors leadership, they are now working hard to finance a new Performing Arts Center, Trails System, and Aquatic Center. For more information on these important economic projects, please email Kevin.
About Us
In the Beginning:
Sierra Insurance Associates, Inc. was started in 1993 by Kevin Murphy. Our Licensed DBA is Truckee Tahoe Insurance Services. In 1995, we formed Professional Insurance Associates, Inc. of Nevada, with a main office in Reno. These two firms were formed to provide a large and varied variety of insurance products for the Truckee and Reno areas. Our focus was Commercial and Business insurance of all types.
The Growing Years:
From 1993 to 2008, Sierra Insurance experienced huge growth doubling in size along with the growth of the community. As we grew, we increased staff until which point as we totaled 8 full time employees. Sierra Insurance expanded into Personal Lines (Home, Auto, Umbrella's and Toys) and then into Health Insurance (Individual and Group). After a few more years, we then expanded into Life and Disability Insurance.
The Partnership with PIA - The 10th Largest Broker in California:
In 1993 we started our partnership with PIA - Professional Insurance Associates, Inc. located in San Carlos, California. San Carlos is located about 12 miles from the San Francisco International Airport. That partnership was primarily for marketing and company access. PIA would assist us with aggress8ve commercial marketing and also granted us one-on-one access to some very large and exclusive insurance company's.
But in 2007, we saw an economic shift forthcoming. And so we made the hard decision of re-organizing to prepare for the changes. The most important part of our shift was a desire to radically increase our customer service. In early 2008, we shifted most of our service functions to PIA who had a staff of over 50 extremely experienced employees. Today, three years after the transition, we have implemented one of the most competitive service organizations in the industry boasting both a local representation coupled with massive operational service.
Where we're going:
Our mission is to continue to handle the insurance needs of our community and to continue to expand along with the area. With our expansion comes our continued belief in giving back to our community both in time and money. Know this: other agents pocket their commissions. We, however, allocate a large amount of revenue for donations. We are extremely philanthropic.

Kevin C. Murphy, President: Overall Sales, Service, Managment and Running the Show. Kevin's experience encompasses: Insurance Merger/Aqusitions, Prestige Personal Lines Policy Creation, SocioEconomic Analysis, Insurance Automation Consulting, and for the last 20 years: Commercial, Personal, Life and Health Insurance analsyis and sales. Kevin has BS degrees in Software Engineering and Finance. He also has a Masters in International Telecommunications. He has an Insurance AAM professional designation. In addition, Kevin has been the 2000 Chairman for the Truckee Donner Chamber of Commerce, 2006 President of Truckee Rotary, and the 2008 & 2009 Chair for the Truckee Donner Recreation and Parks District. Kevin was instrumental in bringing Truckee's new Community Center to fruition. He is currently working to bring a Performing Arts Center, Aquatic Center, and Trails project to the community. Kevin constantly volunteers his time for the betterment of Truckee. |
